If You Love Your Home Then Show It The Love

A home is a very personal place. It is where your best memories are made with your spouse, children,

What we constantly forget about owning a home, is that it needs tender loving care. Time needs to be spent taking care of the little but important items in your home. When was the last time you changed the filters in your HVAC system? Did you know they need to be done on a regular schedule, every 3 months.

How about changing the batteries in your smoke detectors, carbon monoxide detectors and keyless entries to your home. These also need to be done regularly.

Checking to make sure the caulking around all of your bath tubs and showers quarterly is also very important. Water travels in mysterious ways, and you should not neglect the upkeep or it will be a costly repair.

When was the last time you had your dryer vent cleaned out? Did you know that more than 100,000 people die each year from house fires caused by this.

Do you have a working, charged fire extinguisher in your kitchen? Even more importantly, does everyone in your home know how to use it? Simple but equally important to know. Most towns require a working fire extinguisher to be installed in the house in order to pass for a continued certificate of occupancy (CCO). This might seem ugly to place in the kitchen, but it can most certainly save your life.

We have a client that signed on with our company last year. When we did our home assessment (which we do for every new member), we found that they had no fire extinguishers in the house. With their permission, we installed one in the kitchen and another in their garage. Four months later they had an electrical fire in their garage from a piece of equipment, and luckily they were able to grab the fire extinguisher we placed in their garage and quickly put out the fire. The home owner was relieved that his home and family were saved by us having placed the fire extinguishers in his home.

Some home owners are very handy and love to tinker around the house, and some just don't have the time or knowledge of what to do. If you are the latter home owner, than it is time to ask for help. Don't be shy, we cannot all be the best at everything, just the things we love to do. If you love to spend time working, playing a sport, or hanging with your kids, then those are the things you should concentrate on being the best at, just make sure you enjoy each moment doing it.

There is no shame in hiring someone to help you with your house. So what would your house be saying to you if it could speak? I hope it says " I love you too."
friends and family members. We spend hours pouring through magazines and websites looking for the perfect piece to place in each room.
